Rumor: Sony Working on Breakaway Motion Controller

Why Does That Sound So Familiar?

by Veggie Jackson

We’re constantly hearing rumors about Microsoft introducing a motion-sensitive controller for the Xbox 360.  The rumors are just as regularly debunked, but we still hear them.  With all the speculation about MS’s controllers, maybe the PS3 is getting a little jealous.  That would explain the newest rumor coming out of Gamesindustry.biz.  According to the site, several industry sources have stated that Sony’s next controller will not only have a Wii-like accelerometer, it will actually break apart into two pieces, further emulating the Wii’s patented control scheme.  There are apparently even working models of the controller in the hands of developers.

So when can we expect a statement about these alleged controllers?  No word from Sony, or anyone else for that matter, but an E3 announcement would certainly make sense.  We’ll be there, so if we see them, we’ll let you know.
