At a company event in Japan today, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that like Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIII will be getting a direct sequel, entitled Final Fantasy XIII-2.  The game is set for a 2011 release, with an American release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 coming “next Winter.”  A Japanese trailer has also been released, showing main character Lightning and a new character she fights alongside…or against…or something. 

The trailer seems to pick up right where XIII left off, so those who haven’t finished it (like me) should steer clear (dammit!).  Based on the armor she wears in the video, it seems that Lightning has lost all worry about wounds to her ass, but at least she hasn’t joined Jem and the Holograms like Yuna did.
