Square Enix To Buy Eidos

Companies Finally Work Out Details

by Veggie Jackson

After months of rumor, speculation, and negotiations, Square Enix is finally set to buy Eidos.  The two game companies have agreed on a deal wherein Square Enix would purchase Eidos' complete share capital sometime in late May of this year.  The takeover is pending the approval of Eidos' shareholders, who are expected to approve the deal later this month.

With the global economy in the situation it's in, Square Enix is one of the few publishers that consistently does well financially, so from a gamer's perspective, this is a great place for Eidos' properties, like Tomb Raider and Hitman to end up.  Whether these games will retain the Eidos name or will become full-on Square Enix properties, but with the disappointing sales numbers of Tomb Raider: Underworld, you can be sure that some kind of changes are on the way.

Also, do we call you Squeidox from now on?  Squeeidix?  Squarnidox?
