Star Trek Online Release Date Set

Stardate: Groundhog's Day!

by Veggie Jackson

Over the years, there have been no less than 60 Star Trek games produced.  Not one of them has been worth a Tribble’s ass, though, and many of them have fallen into the category of “Downright Awful.”  Since 1979, Trekkies Trekkers everywhere have wondered when they’d get their hands on a decent Star Trek title.  Luckily, Star Trek Online looks like it may break the streak of ineptitude, and if it does, we have a stardate for the end of the bad Star Trek game era; February 2, 2010.

Eurogamer is reporting that both Atari and Cryptic have confirmed that February 2, Lt. Commander Data’s birthday, will be the release date for North America.  Europeans will have to wait until February 5, which is no one’s birthday.

I’m pretty excited about the game, but I’ve been excited about MMOs before, only to be seriously let down (I’m looking at you, Champions Online).  Hopefully cryptic is able to capture the essence of the Star Trek universe and distill it into a satisfying MMO based on crew relations, deep space exploration, moral choices and intergalactic intrigue.  We’ll find out on February 2.

I don't believe that they changed the term from "Trekkies" to "Trekkers" as of late. Trekkies and Trekkers are two different categories of fans.

"Trekkies" are those who watch the show and appreciate the values in it. They do not dress, or act, like they are a part of the Star Trek universe.

"Trekkers" are those who watch the show and show their appreciation by taking those values and applying them to their daily lives. They will wear the clothing and live their life the way that life is lived in the series and movies (no matter what criticism they receive).

I think I was fair in representing both of the categories.

But I'm heavily anticipating this game and cannot wait "to boldly go where no man, no one, has gone before"!

Oh. That quote was from Spock at the beginning of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

I thought it was at the end of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country...wasn't that the first time he added "no one" to the quote.

    I MUST RESEARCH!
