Street Fighter IV Coming to iPhone

What Is and What Should Never Be

by Veggie Jackson

Street Fighter IV has been a financial and critical success for Capcom, and its half-sequel, Super Street Fighter IV, is likely to do just as well.  Whether it’s on the 360, PS3, an arcade machine, or even PC, people seem to love Street Fighter IV.  What better way to expand the game’s audience than to put it on a platform that can’t possibly do it justice?  For some inconceivable reason, Street Fighter IV is coming to the iPhone.

So far, we’ve only seen Ryu an Ken, but Capcom promises a large roster of fighters.  Surprisingly, each character will also carry their full move-set from Street Fighter IV, including Ultra Combos, which allegedly haven’t been scaled back for the portable version.  The game will also support Bluetooth wireless head-to-head play.

Many “World Warriors” may balk at the idea of a fighter that requires such expert timing being playable on a platform with no physical controller.  To combat this, Capcom has included options for button and control-stick placement and set-up, as well as a setting for button transparency.  One problem; there’s no transparency setting for my left thumb, which will inevitably be blocking my character, nor my right thumb, which will undoubtedly be blocking my opponent.
