Street Fighter IV Producer Teases HUGE Announcement

What's Next for Capcom?

by Veggie Jackson

Street Fighter IV and its semi-sequel, Super Street Fighter IV, were both tremendously successful titles, receiving rave reviews, earning Capcom a small fortune, and essentially reigniting interest in the 2D fighting genre.  Apparently, all that was nothing, because the games’ producer has teased an upcoming announcement that will put his two previous efforts to shame.

Yoshinori Ono, producer of the SFIV series, Tweeted yesterday about a sale price for Super IV in Japan.  Pretty mundane stuff, but Ono also included an intriguing addendum:

Super SF4 on sale!! SuperSF4 is nothing compared to what’s coming!!”

So what could be coming?  It could just be an announcement about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, but after the brief one-year gap between SFIV and SSFIV, the idea of a Hyper-Fighting, Turbo, or Championship Edition of the game doesn’t seem too far-fetched.  With the resurgence of the genre that Street Fighter built, it could be that one of Capcom’s other fighting franchises, like Darkstalkers, is ready for the 2.5D treatment.  Hell, maybe it’s a sequel to the NES stinker, Street Fighter 2010, though probably not, since that would be the worst idea in the history of ideas.  All we’ve got for now is a cryptic Tweet, a sale on Super Street Fighter IV in Japan that kind of sucks (about $57 USD, by Google’s accounting), and a launching point for endless, wild, baseless speculation about Red Earth remakes and the return of Rival Schools, and other such nonsense.

He's referring to the arcade version which isn't due till fall and is really only relevant to Japan. US arcades were basically obligated by the release of ssf4 to buy console boxes and seeing as the arcade industry is completely dead it's not like somebody is going to stop them for running them. Chinatown fair charges a quarter to play for three minutes, when the time runs out the buttons stop working. It creates a really awkward situation in the arcade because a buck gets you twelve minutes which leads to some serious and slow as fuck lines. So . . . sorry to burst the speculation bubble but there you go.

If this is the case, Karoshi, I'm disappointed...unless it means DLC characters from the arcade release.
