"The additional time put into development will result in better gameplay and more fun for gamers."  This is a quote from Aspyr marketing director Eric Duncan about the recently announced delay for the Xbox 360 port of the hit RTS, Supreme Commander, but it could just as easily be a form letter for developers who can’t get their games out on time.  Originally slated for an April release, the complex and engaging strategy game will now hit consoles "later this spring or early summer.”

While no real reason has been given for the delay, but one can assume that the difficulty of cramming the deep controls of the PC game into a 360 controller is part of the cause.  We’ve seen RTS gameplay that works well on a console, even on the 360 specifically with Command & Conquer 3 and Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2, but Supreme Commander is a huge, deep game with a scale that dwarfs these RTS experiences.  Let’s hope that Aspyr is able to translate this excellent PC title without having to tone it down too much.
