Tekken 7 in Production
Return to the King of Iron Fist Tournament

When a franchise has gone through six iterations, three spin-offs, and 33 million total games sold, what could possibly be next? A seventh game, obviously. In news that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Eurogamer Portugal is reporting that Namco Bandai’s Katsuhiro Harada has revealed to them that they are working on Tekken 7.
The news comes out of a press event in Spain earlier this week where Harada let it slip that the game is in the early stages of production. No other details were given.
It may come as a surprise to some that Tekken is the highest-selling fighting game franchise in gaming, moving 5 million more copies than the Street Fighter series and 7.5 million more than Mortal Kombat. With sales numbers like that, it’s no shock that a seventh game is on the way. Since the franchise moved to the PlayStation 2 with Tekken 4, however, the series has seen steadily declining review scores. Many fans of the series were especially disappointed in Tekken 6. Hopefully, for Tekken 7, Namco Bandai focuses more on the core gameplay than on gimmicky beat-em-up side games.
