They’re Making a Pac-Man Movie?!?!?
Seriously, They’re Apparently Making a Pac-Man Movie
When studios decide on which video game to ruin…I mean translate into a film, there are generally three qualifications they’re looking for; the game’s popularity, relatable and interesting characters, and some sort of adaptable narrative. Apparently, as far as Crystal Sky Pictures is concerned, two out of three ain’t bad. The studio, who is responsible for such gems as Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 and Karate Dog, signed a $200 million deal with financier Grosvenor Park to finance five films, including the already announced Castlevania film, some non-game related films, and, for some reason, Pac-Man.
Sure, Pac-Man is a household name – maybe even more so than Mario – but where’s the story here? “Round guy eats lots of pills, is attacked by ghosts, eats bigger pills, eats ghosts” doesn’t really qualify as a plot. My first thought about this was, “well, maybe it’s a Pixar type thing,” but Crystal Sky has never done any CG animation. So what are they thinking? Live action? Claymation? Puppets? Oh God, it’s going to be puppets, isn’t it? Can someone tell Crystal Sky that this is an epically BAD idea, and that they should stay far, far away from a Pac-Man movie.
Frogger? Now that’s a different story…
