Thor, Ameterasu Join Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
Reimagined Deities Get Set To Do Battle

Yesterday, we announced that four new characters will be joining the Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 roster. We announced it in the voice of Dr. Doom, because, y’know, the lulz. Today, two more characters have been revealed. For this announcement, we thought about doing the voice of one of the two new fighters, but Thor’s fake “Olde English” speech pattern would get annoying after about two sentences, and Ameterasu is a wolf, and, strangely enough, a large percentage of our readers don’t speak wolf, so we’ll just say that Thor and Ameterasu are coming to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

The reveal comes by way of Marvel.com, who posted both in-game images and character art for both characters. The reveal was supposed to happen at a panel at Comic Con, but Marvel jumped the gun. They have since pulled all gameplay footage from the site, but have left the character art for Thor.

Thor, based on the Norse god of the same name, is one of the classic Marvel heroes, first appearing in 1962’s Journey Into Mystery #83. Ameterasu, based on the Shinto sun goddess of the same name, is the main character in the PS2 classic, Okami. Neither character comes as a huge shock, but both are welcome additions to the roster. Thor has appeared in a few video games before, including an appearance as an assist partner in Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, but never as a playable character in a fighting game. Ameterasu has only appeared in her own game, but is already a beloved character, and should make for an interesting, unorthodox combatant.
We fully expect to hear even more character reveals as Comic Con goes on, and we’ll be sure to bring them to you as soon as we get them. Who knows; maybe the next one will be in a funny voice.
