Tony Hawk Reveals New Game This Year

Who Saw This Coming? Oh Yeah, Everyone.

by Veggie Jackson

Tony Hawk, the Babe Ruth of skateboarding, just announced that the next Tony Hawk game will be revealed on May 15, and will be released some time this year.  The pronouncement was made on Tony’s Twitter page, where he stated "I have been harboring the secret long enough” before announcing that the game would be officially revealed on GameTrailers TV in four days.

Calling this info a “secret” is a bit misleading; we all knew there would be a new Tony Hawk game coming, we just didn’t know when it would be officially announced.  We even have a name for the upcoming project; Tony Hawk’s Adrenaline.  That was announced back in December, along with details in the form of quotes like "It's a whole new direction for us," "it's going to be way more realistic and way more interactive,” and “you're not going to be playing this game with a controller in your hands."  Expect a balance board to be involved.

I was a die-hard Tony Hawk Pro Skater fan up until 2007.  Then Skate came out, and Tony Hawk was quickly forgotten.  Activision will have to do something truly revolutionary to get me back on board with a series that has felt dated for 3 years now, and a controller-less input scheme might be just the thing.  Then again, handing a long-lived franchise over to a new developer is always a risk, so the jury is totally out on this one.  We’ll get some idea what to expect later this week.

I hope that Tony has something new and fresh up his sleeve, because since Skate came out, Tony's has been becoming old news.

I haven't skateboarded in years and I haven't played a skateboarding game since American Wasteland. I STILL have a bad taste in my mouth from that.

Come on now, loltim! Do yourself a favor, get back on the board and cruise down to the store to pick up Skate 2.
