Last year at the New York Comic Con, Top Cow president, Matt Hawkins dropped the faintest of hints about a sequel to the 2007 shooter, The Darkness. "I can't announce there's going to be another game, but…" said Hawkins, suggestively, enticing fans of the game and the Top Cow comic that serves as its source material.  Apparently, this is becoming a trend.

Today, at a Top Cow panel promoting Milo Ventimiglia’s comic project, Berserker, the Heroes and Rocky Balboa star, along with Hawkins, dropped a far more substantial hint that all but confirms an upcoming The Darkness 2.

Milo: “There’s a Darkness game coming out too, isn’t there?”
Matt: “Yeah, it’s already out. The sequel will be out in 2011.”

The first game was met with moderate financial success and generally positive reviews, and was lauded for its complex, original story, attention to detail and impressive visuals.  Since this is still technically a non-announcement, there are no details on release dates, platforms or even if Starbreeze will stay on as developer, but hey, there’s still another whole day of NYCC, so stay tuned.

UPDATE - We now have official confirmation, via Top Cow president, Matt Hawkins, that The Darkness 2 is in the works.
