Blood Bowl Teasers

Gorgeous. Hideously Gorgeous.

Are any of you games out there old enough to remember Mutant League Football?  Back in 1993, EA tweaked their Madden game engine and replaced the eleven-man NFL teams with seven-man squads made of robots, orcs, monsters, skeletons and trolls.  The game was a decent success, spawning a hockey spin-off and even a short-lived cartoon.  Fans of the game have clamored for a remake, re-imagining or even a re-release, but other than the game’s inclusion on the 2006 PSP collection, EA Replay, no love has been shown to the quirky, humorous sports title.

It may not be Mutant League Football per se, but it’s pretty damn close.  Later this year, publisher, Focus Home Interactive, and developer, Cyanide, will be bringing us Blood Bowl later this year.  The game is based on a variation of the classic tabletop game, Warhammer, and not on Mutant League Football, but honestly, if you just ignore the main title screen, it’ll be just like playing MLF on a current-gen system.

Anyway, the last three days have seen the release of three new trailers for the game, and all three look pretty nice.  More than pretty nice, even.  I’d go so far as to call them impressive.  Take a look, and you tell me how a developer no one’s never heard of made such a nice looking sports title.

The goblin in the last trailer threw an illegal non-lateral pass. If there were any rules, I'm sure a few of them would be broken there....
