What Are You Playing This Week?

3.09.09

Sometimes gaming isn’t all about having fun, and for me, this week proves it.

I’m a bit behind on my reviews, so much of the week will be taken up with games I don’t particularly want to play at all.  First off is the DS title that’s sure to become a classic to no one, My World, My Way.  It’s an RPG with a special “Pout” system that lets the main character whine until she gets her way.  Obviously, a title like this would not normally be at the top of my “Must Play” list, but I have obligations, so a poutin’ I shall go.  Next up is Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop for the Wii.  I loved the original game, but despised the save system and Otis.  Luckily, Capcom listened to the ubiquitous complaints about these two facets of the game and fixed them both quite nicely, turning it into a more straight-forward, mission-based game.  Sadly, they took out about 90% of the zombies, your camera, and any semblance of a control scheme, so the modest improvements come at a pretty steep price.  Finally, I’ve been struggling through a good portion of Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and plan to continue to do so.  As a tactics game, it’s not something I normally would have played at all, but I have to review it, so I am, and I’m glad I was forced to try it out.  It’s a surprising amount of fun, and it’s turned me on to other classic tactics games, like Shining Force and Advance Wars.

The rest of my gaming time this week will be taken up with high-speed ass kicking.  Ever since Street Fighter IV came out, I’ve been on a massive Street Fighter kick.  I purchased the special Mad Catz controller, studied Wiki entries for every playable character ever, bought a few SF figures, and even changed my desktop wallpaper to a crazy-hot picture of Cammy.  More to the point, I also went out and purchased the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (including every game from the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III series), Street Fighter Alpha Anthology and Street Fighter Ex, EX2 and EX3.  Combining these with Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and I’ve got every a version of Street Fighter game produced since 1990. The only one I’m missing? Street Fighter, ironically.  I’m falling in love with the EX series, but having a lot of trouble learning the nuances of Street Fighter III and the Alpha series.  Hopefully, gluing myself to the controller for a week or so will remedy that, and I’ll be able to throw Sodom or Ibuki at any random challenger and be able to hold my own.  We’ll see.

How about you?  What are YOU playing this week?

Well there's this game called Homework, in which the main character (You) has to do some work and extra curricular activities such as planning for a major trip and figuring out [and justifying] a budget for the following years' students that are members of that particular organization. Along with all of that there are NPC's that are all trying to distract you from your work. One last thing is a quirk called "Lack of Sleep" --to which disables certain parts of your day-- that plays a crucial role in your week.

I would give a review for this title, but it's one tough game to play.

Yes, since Street Fighter IV has come out I have caught the fighter bug as well playing on top of Street Fighter IV, other fighters like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Power Stone, Virtual On, Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO, Tatsunoku vs. Capcom, and later on this week i'll be playing the Samurai Showdown Anthotholgy. I'll be picking up Madworld on Wednesday and Resident Evil 5 Thursday night. I will also be on Killzone 2 improving my ranking and getting the rest of the Honor Medals (I got 10% this past week, WOOT WOOT!!). So game-wise, I am pretty busy. Madworld seems like its going to be short and I'll play through it alot as time goes by and I've heard that RE 5 is pretty easy with 2 players, so we'll see. Good luck to everyone on their games!!!

Star Ocean: The Last Hope has gotten much better after the meh first hour or two, and I'm actually enjoying it now. Will play that more this week, along with Stoked and Blue Dragon Plus. Also playing mostly review games this week, but honestly with those I don't have too many complaints.

I bought Shadow of the Colossus, because I never had a PS2 and I felt it was a must own. I'm determined to beat it in under 8 hours (30 minutes per Colossus).

    So far so good.
