Where’s the Dark Knight Game?

“EA Manager” Speaks Candidly

by Veggie Jackson

The Dark Knight has taken the world by storm.  In addition to breaking damn near every box office record there is, it’s also been almost universally critically acclaimed, and, according to the internet, it’s the greatest movie of all time.  So where’s the crappy video game adaptation?  These things usually appear on the same date as the movie, but, despite leaks by industry insiders indicting the game’s existence, we’ve heard no official word on whether or not a game will ever materialize.

Yesterday, the AP spoke with an anonymous “EA Manager” about the title and got some answers.  According to the article, missed deadlines, poor sales projections, questionable quality issues and the death of co-star Heath Ledger may have contributed to the game’s no-show, and, as of right now, the game is not on EA’s release schedule through March 2009.  The AP also spoke with industry “expert,” Michael Pachter, who believes that $100 million in potential sales have been missed due to the delay.

For those who don’t remember, Batman Begins had an Xbox/PS2 game attached to it, and not only was it a terrible Splinter Cell clone with very little actual gameplay, it was also an unmitigated financial flop.  With talk of “questionable quality” for the new one, perhaps it’s for the best that it stays in development for a while longer.  And if those issues aren’t fixed, perhaps the game is best forgotten altogether.

I would guess that $100 million in potential sales is a gross understatment.

    1. Scrap the game you have.
    2. Make Lego Dark Knight instead.
    3. Profit.
