Last week’s Japanese video game hardware sales numbers are in, and shockingly, the gaijin Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3.  The 360, which sold only 3,718 units the previous week saw a 475% increase, moving 17,673 consoles compared to PS3’s 17,434.  The release of the Microsoft exclusive Ace Combat 6 is largely responsible for the massive sales boost, as it debuted at #2 on the Japanese software charts behind Super Mario Galaxy. 

Of course, all of this is kind of moot: The Wii easily doubled the sales of both yet again, and it is more than likely that next week’s numbers will snap back to the bizarro-status quo that Japan is used to.  Still, interesting news, especially when you consider that all these new 360 owners will see that there are actually good games available for their new systems.  Well, except for the 30% who end up with XBrick 360s.
