Spielberg's Boom Blox for Wii to feature Head Tracking! Really!

Really, REALLY!

by WiNG

According to Joystiq, Lou Castle at the GDC has announced that the upcoming Wii game Boom Blox will feature head tracking.

What's head tracking, you say?

Well, if this video doesn't explain it, it's basically technology that makes the screen adapt to where you're looking. Instead of staring at a static image, you can stand up and look OVER an object, or lean to one side and check out every angle.

It is bad ass.

Will this make Boom Blox worth a purchase? Who knows? But it's encouraging to see someone taking steps to bring true innovation to modern gaming.

I read this earlier and still have NO idea how they plan to implement it.

Even without head-tracking, this game looks amazing.

If they're not careful, they could be building up for another Lair disappointment. Slightest touch of wiimote = rediculous running in circles.

ChinaDoll, I'm not sure you understand what head tracking is....

Head tracking is a decent theory. But can you imagine not being able to look away from a game without controlling the screen. It might make for some messy combat scenarios.

Button Smasher, if you looked away from the screen it would change the viewpoint, but the second you look back it will be reset to normal.

Wing, I understand what head tracking is, there's no need to get defensive.
what I'm saying is, it's easy to overcomplicate a simple idea. Can you imagine tilting your from side to side trying to get to the right angle, while your camera is flying around trying desperately to replicate that?

yeah, THAT's what i mean. i'm not saying it can't work. i'm just saying, there's the strong possibility.

i was using Lair as a good example to when this happened. 6-axis was got us so excited, or whatever. shame Lair did such a ruddy job of showing it.
