Ar Tonelico 2 news update
once again, homebrewn fixes to the rescue
by Zantagor
Well, from what I gathered from Sams Bishop of IGN, the game breaking glitch in Ar Tonelico 2 when fighting a specific boss won't be dealt with by NISA.
But, someone from the homebrewn scene, known for doing undubs of PS2 games in the past, have issued a patch for the bug, and has been confirmed to fix the issue.
The issue in the end was somekind of buffer overflow, where the text to be displayed was too long, and crashed the game.
So, the good news is that the bug has a fix.
The bad news, is that unless you have a mean to play "illegal" copies of games, then you're screwed, as it involved creating an iso from your disc and patching it.
For people with an HDLoader or SwapMagic the fix should work.
I'm not posting the link, for the gray area legality matter of the thing, but anyone who can google or check forums should be able to find the patch easily.
I'm just giving out a heads up on this for people who bought the game and are as pissed as me about the bug.

Unbelievable, NISA. And totally unacceptable.
this is totally unacceptable that NISA and Gust cannot come together and get a fix so that everyone can play their game. I refuse to pick up this game and even try the patch because NISA and Gust does not deserve to have me pick up the game.
Game breaking glitches FTL.
No excuse for this.
Def shitty, but i'm pretty sure that it is not Illegal to backup a disc ( that was legaly purchased, in the U.S. anyway) even if u add a patch file to it. Now if u began distributing that said disc that would be wrong. I remember going over this specific thing in one of criminal justice classes, that was about 8 years ago tho. What i do know for a fact is that the (federal government) does not actively prosecute end users for copy right infringement, they leave that to the civil courts.
Well, the problem isn't GUST, the japanese version didn't have this bug. The bug was created solely by NISA at this point.
I'm always running GUST games from my HD Loader personally, because they always seem to have load stuttering during battles, that are eliminated when running from an HDD, but still, NISA should seriously do a recall on this, I for one won't rush to buy their next title, that's for sure
