Sad to say that I'm now part of the 360 casualities

dreaded E74

by Zantagor

My 360 last night gave me the nice gift of the E74 error.

Of course, my 1 year warranty ran out like 4 months ago, so Microsoft are asking the nice friendly sum of 150$ for repairs.

Though he did subtly mentioned that I could wait on a RRoD and send it free.

It kind of pisses me off, knowing the the E74 error is literally as wide-spread as the RRoD issue, and that they ask 150$ when a new 360 Arcade is like 200$ with 2 free games.

I'm able to turn the 360 on once every 10 tries, so maybe I'll keep playing until it dies for good, or try to induce it in a premature RRoD state, or simply recall MS later this week telling them it RRoDed.

And to think I used to be one fervent defender that the 360 problems were overexagerated to boot...

Getting this just now, when Sacred 2 and Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 are right around the corner :(

Fun fact: try using "E74" in any of the XBL games that tells you to make an alias that's a letter and two numbers. Apparently their own faulty hardware is "vulgar."

Guess in a way it means I'll be able to take a 360 break for a while. If I decide to buy a new one, I'll probably buy an arcade version (since I already have the HDD and such), and take an extended 3 years warranty on it at the store. (Usually they're scams, but for the 360, I think it's worth it)

ya, E74 is the ANA/HANA chip in most cases. If I tap on the top of my 360 right were the A/V connector is (which is also where ANA is), I'm able to startup the 360

Then maybe you need to help that RRoD along. Tape up the vents, wrap it in a thermal blanket, put it in front of a space heater. That shit will turn redder than butt at a spanking convention.

That sucks, man. Really, that does suck a lot! I would say wait until it RRoD's on you, then buy another one while the original is getting replaced --oh, sorry, "fixed"-- at Microsoft HQ and sell the "original" 360 when it comes home. That's what I did.

Dude, just tell them it's the Red Rings. It's not like when they get it they'll bitch about it. My gf's Xbox wasn't under warranty and she had the E74 error. She told them it was RRoD and they take it back immediately. Call them, and tell them that's the problem.

Ya, I'll call back later this week, or use the online repair system instead.
Only thing is that they'll ship home, when no one's there.... which is kind of a pain.

Unless you can make it ship at you workplace...

I think you can. Just tell them you want to register it there. That shouldn't be an issue.

I myself was a victim of the RRoD. Second system i bought, the friggin power cord blew after like two months. Love the games, hate the system. Everytime the sound of my xbox changes pitch i bite my lip that it's not going to explode. Don't think i could justify three systems in three years.

Atleast i knew w/ my nintendo if it wasn't working i could blow in the cartridge, tap it twice on my knee and shove another game in on top i could get it to work every time.

This is why I think it's hightime that Microsoft just bite the bullet and redesign the damn thing once and for all.

like Sony did for the PS1 and PS2 slim.

They made newer Xboxs with better chips in them. Whether they're on shelves or not, I have no idea.

Just buy a new one, write down the new ones id code, switch the codes, put your old one with the new code in the new box and return it. If that doesn't work make a deal with the devil.
